One of our favorite materials is beat up, trashed, colorful ball pit balls. They're definitely throw away plastics, as they generally can't be recycled, and it's hard to find another use for them after their original purpose is no longer an option. But we use these old toys to make our hoop earring beads, and we use whatever is leftover from that to make the pigment for our tiny post earrings - like these!

These tiny drop earrings are made with a recycled and handcut (not machined) yellow pigment made from old toys, measure approximately 6.6 x 4.6 mm and come on stainless steel posts.

The plastic pigment in my jewelry comes from beach plastic, street plastic, donated plastics and leftover bits from my other recycled plastic jewelry. In many cases, there is no current method of recycling these plastics via traditional means. The binding agent that holds the plastics together is a plant based bio resin. All plastics are cleaned and sanitized before use.

Due to the handmade nature of these earrings and the materials used to create them, slight differences should be expected from pair to pair, and from the image shown to illustrate the earrings. Colors may look different in person than they appear on screen. This listing is for one pair of earrings, only. All other photos are included for size and material reference.

  • These are considered costume jewelry and should be kept in dry areas when not being worn (so don't keep them in the bathroom or kitchen, don't go swimming in them, don't wear them while dancing in the rain, etc.). Spraying chemicals on or near costume jewelry may speed up the "antiquing" of metal - for instance, perfumes, hair spray, make-up setting sprays.

A portion of our proceeds are donated to environmental conservation efforts. We donate a minimum of $1,000 per year to Ocean Conservancy as part of their Business Champions for Sea Change Program. We also donate $1 to Mangrove Action Project for each package we ship. The sale of these pieces also helps to fund the direct clean-up of thousands of pieces and pounds of plastic trash, as well as helping to fund environmental education efforts.

Please see our page on sustainability for information on how you can return your old or worn out Hey Lola jewelry to us for recycling.
