These earrings are made with assorted trash plastics and are then bound with a bio resin to create the pretty focal gem shaped pieces for these earrings. The gem shaped drops hang from sterling silver 15 mm hoops and are approximately 1.5" in length
The plastic pigment in my jewelry comes from beach plastic, street plastic, and leftover bits from my other recycled plastic jewelry. In many cases, there is no current method of recycling these plastics via traditional means. The binding agent that holds the plastics together is a plant based bio resin. All plastics are cleaned and sanitized before use.
Due to the handmade nature of these earrings and the materials used to create them, slight differences should be expected from pair to pair, and from the image shown to illustrate the earrings. Colors may look different in person than they appear on screen. This listing is for one pair of earrings, only. All other photos are included for size and material reference.
A portion of our proceeds are donated to environmental conservation efforts. We donate a minimum of $1,000 per year to Ocean Conservancy as part of their Business Champions for Sea Change Program. We also donate $1 to Mangrove Action Project for each package we ship. The sale of these pieces also helps to fund the direct clean-up of thousands of pieces and pounds of plastic trash, as well as helping to fund environmental education efforts.
These are considered costume jewelry and should be kept in dry areas when not being worn (so don't keep them in the bathroom or kitchen, don't go swimming in them, don't wear them while dancing in the rain, etc.). Spraying chemicals on or near costume jewelry may speed up the "antiquing" of metal - for instance, perfumes, hair spray, make-up setting sprays.
IMPORTANT SHIPPING INFORMATION: Items ship out within 10 days of purchase. Our items are carefully packaged using mostly recycled materials - if you find plastic bags and/or styrofoam in your order, please rest assured that those pieces are reclaimed "trash." We do not purchase new styrofoam, cardboard, shredded paper or plastic for our shipping materials - it's almost entirely reclaimed and processed by us. In the event that we do purchase paper supplies (such as wrapping paper or streamers), we purchase them secondhand from thrift stores. We do use new paper packing tape, stickers, and occasionally some plastic packing tape for box reinforcement. All of our sticker paper is then recycled back into art pieces.
