We hand-punch every one of these plastic beads for these earrings from mateless lids, school supplies, shampoo bottles, and our infamous "old dirty balls (ball pit balls)."
In most cases, there is no current method of recycling the plastics I use via traditional means. All plastics are cleaned and sanitized before use.
These earrings are 35 mm white gold filled (looks silver) and measure approximately 1.25 inches in diameter. Gold-filled jewelry has 100x more gold alloy than gold plated. Because that layer is so much thicker, it means gold-filled jewelry lasts longer and stands up to wear and tear better than gold plated. We pair our plastics with high quality ear wire metals like gold fill and sterling silver so that your jewelry will last longer. And if you ever decide that you've had your jewelry long enough, you can send it back to us and we'll recycle it again!
Due to the handmade nature of these earrings and the materials used to create them, slight differences should be expected from pair to pair, and from the image shown to illustrate the earrings. Silver Double Double Rainbow Hoop Earrings
These are considered costume jewelry and should be kept in dry areas when not being worn (so don't keep them in the bathroom or kitchen, don't go swimming in them, don't wear them while dancing in the rain, etc.). Spraying chemicals on or near costume jewelry may speed up the "antiquing" of metal - for instance, perfumes, hair spray, make-up setting sprays.
A portion of our proceeds are donated to environmental conservation efforts. We donate a minimum of $1,000 per year to Ocean Conservancy as part of their Business Champions for Sea Change Program. We also donate $1 to Mangrove Action Project for each package we ship. The sale of these pieces also helps to fund the direct clean-up of thousands of pieces and pounds of plastic trash, as well as helping to fund environmental education efforts.
