Our studio has an abundance of restaurant plastics - they're not recyclable where we live (or in many places), so we're turning them into more jewelry.
Each "coral" piece on these earrings is hand cut and hand formed to create a unique pair of earrings. While I may make more of these, due to my design process, no two sets will ever be identical. I designed these while thinking of coral reefs and the effects of ocean warming. While I could add color to them, I feel like they make a powerful statement as is - ghost reefs.
The ear wires for these are 35 mm white gold-filled hypoallergenic hoops.
In many cases, there is no current method of recycling the plastics I use via traditional means. The plastics used for these earrings are currently not recyclable where I live. All plastics are cleaned and sanitized before use. And if you ever decide that you've had your jewelry long enough, you can send it back to us and we'll recycle it again!
Due to the handmade nature of these earrings and the materials used to create them, slight differences should be expected from pair to pair, and from the image shown to illustrate the earrings. Colors may look different in person than they appear on screen. This listing is for one pair of earrings, only. All other photos are included for size and material reference.

These are considered costume jewelry and should be kept in dry areas when not being worn (so don't keep them in the bathroom or kitchen, don't go swimming in them, don't wear them while dancing in the rain, etc.). Spraying chemicals on or near costume jewelry may speed up the "antiquing" of metal - for instance, perfumes, hair spray, make-up setting sprays.
A portion of our proceeds are donated to environmental conservation efforts. We donate a minimum of $1,000 per year to Ocean Conservancy as part of their Business Champions for Sea Change Program. We also donate $1 to Mangrove Action Project for each package we ship. The sale of these pieces also helps to fund the direct clean-up of thousands of pieces and pounds of plastic trash, as well as helping to fund environmental education efforts.
Please see our page on sustainability for information on how you can return your old or worn out Hey Lola jewelry to us for recycling.
