I was called trash and treated like trash for the majority of my life. And that's one of the reasons I love working with trash - let me show you how much potential and possibility "trash" has. I hope my work helps you redefine "trash" in every form it takes, whether it's something we find tossed aside on the street or the way we're treated and sometimes feel about ourselves.

After struggling to find a solution to size-inclusive bracelets with a lower environmental footprint, we finally landed on a result that we're really proud of! We're taking discarded clothing (items like leggings and tights) and repurposing the fabric into our super comfortable stretch bracelets. From sourcing the fabrics to cutting to beading to braiding, each one of these bracelets is made completely by hand in our Midwest artist studio. The charms were designed in-house and made by my husband out in the garage, where he keeps a lot of machinery that I don't really understand, but apparently has the capability to make some trash can charms.

Our bracelets are stretchy and adjustable, and although the actual bracelet size varies depending on the material, all of them can be as small as you want (just reknot and cut off the excess) or stretched to 12+". If you have concerns about one of our bracelets not being roomy enough, leave us a note in your order and we'll make sure to pick one with a larger circumference.

Because of the labor intensive process of this work and the uncertainty regarding sourcing of materials, these bracelets are made in small batches and have limited availability.

  • These are considered costume jewelry and should be kept in dry areas when not being worn (so don't keep them in the bathroom or kitchen, don't go swimming in them, don't wear them while dancing in the rain, etc.). Spraying chemicals on or near costume jewelry may speed up the "antiquing" of metal - for instance, perfumes, hair spray, make-up setting sprays.

A portion of our proceeds are donated to environmental conservation efforts. We donate a minimum of $1,000 per year to Ocean Conservancy as part of their Business Champions for Sea Change Program. We also donate $1 to Mangrove Action Project for each package we ship. The sale of these pieces also helps to fund the direct clean-up of thousands of pieces and pounds of plastic trash, as well as helping to fund environmental education efforts.

Please see our page on sustainability for information on how you can return your old or worn out Hey Lola jewelry to us for recycling.
